Ice melts
Black river overflows
Until blocked
Black river keeps overflowing
Rain falls from above
I add ink onto a stack of paper
and let it dry.
I put ice cubes onto the paper
and let them melt.
I document.
I record the process.
I redo the damage.
Trying to reveal, attempting to conceal.
In traditional Chinese landscape painting, a finished piece of artwork composed of black ink and paper is at the still stage of tranquility and beauty. But if you pour a bowl of water onto it, the landscape will soon fade away.
This inspires me to do an art project using Chinese ink and water, addressing some concerns about the environmental damage made by the human race.
Ice dwindles, trees fade, mankind neglects.
Climate change is something we are responsible for but unable to undo.
In this video series, I aim to virtually imitate what our planet has been through and how I attempt to reverse the change.
